OREAS 84

OREAS 84 is a nickel sulphide Certified Reference Material prepared from a a suite of komatiite-hosted nickel sulphide ores sourced from the Cosmos and Leinster districts of the Agnew–Wiluna greenstone belt (Western Australia), supplemented with PGE-rich ultramafic material from the Dishaba Mine (South Africa), UG2 Reef PGE ore, and fresh gabbroic rock from the Black Hill Intrusion (Western Australia). The dominant contributors include high-grade Ni sulphide ores (“Cosmos combined” and “Cosmos Blue”), both representative of massive komatiitic sulphide mineralisation with elevated Co, S and base metal tenor, and Xstrata’s high-grade Ni sulphide ore from Leinster.

OREAS 84 has been characterized using the following methods:

  • Lithium borate fusion with X-ray fluorescence
  • Full ICP-OES and ICP-MS elemental suites by 4-acid (HNO3-HF-HClO4-HCl) digestion
  • Sodium peroxide fusion or lithium borate fusion with full ICP-OES and ICP-MS suites
  • Sulphur by infrared combustion furnace

Certified values for applicable analytes are operationally defined for each method, with results under OREAS ISO 17034 scope of accreditation.

Note: Analyte values are indicative only and may change when certified.
